Deborah McArthur’s Gigs for 2011

Across the Arts' music blogger Deborah McArthur gives us her recommendations for gigs throughout 2011.Jonathon carr

Another year and I am excited about who I will see in 2011. I’m already frantically buying tickets for gigs. There are certain artists I do not want to miss and recommend that you get out and see them too. Especially Katy B, a dubstep, R&B, funky, house and UK-garage singer-songwriter, whose voice I think is amazing. Her recent track ‘Lights On’ with Ms Dynamite always gets me dancing – fantastic! Can’t wait on her album coming out!

I would also recommend The Vaccines, a four-piece guitar rock band that are being branded as the band that will breath life back into British guitar music – no pressure then boys! This is the band that posted a track online without having a MySpace or Facebook page and caused an absolute media frenzy – great publicity! They sound like the Ramones and the Beach Boys – brilliant! Another album I can not wait to get my hands on.

Other bands I am desperate to see this year are the

Darwin Deez, Two Door Cinema Club, The Naked and Famous and Little Comets to name but a few. I plan to see as many of them as my cash flow will allow.

Obviously, I will be back at T in the Park. This will be my 5th year and I am sure it’ll be amazing as always – Foo Fighters and Blink 182 already announced which is fab!! Other gigs I won’t be missing this year are Kings of Leon and Take That – it’s going to be an awesome summer!!

One final guy on my “to see list” is an unsigned artist called Jonathan Carr. I underestimated how much of a following he has and didn’t buy tickets for his King Tut’s gig on Saturday 22 January. Turned up to the venue and could barely move; it was jumping and I couldn’t get a ticket for love nor money. Unbelievable!! Spoke to two girls who had travelled from Perth just to see him – now that’s a real fan for you. Lesson learned – always buy tickets even when the venue says there are plenty left!

I can’t wait to get back out there and I’m looking forward to my first gig of 2011 – The Naked and Famous. Only 4 weeks to go - don’t know if I’ll be able to wait that long, may need a “music fix” before then!!

Watch this space!
